My Top 5 Favorite Essential Oils
Essential oils have quickly became an essential part of my daily life (no pun intended). I started researching essential oils a few years ago and it really intrigued me how certain oils can have different affects on your mood whether you are looking for relaxation, energy, mental clarity, or just looking to smell something good. Essential oils also can be used to help with migraines, something I regularly experience, as well as muscle aches, acne, insomnia, sinus congestion, bloating, just to name a few. Below are a few essential oils that have become my go-to’s over the years:
- Lavender oil: Lavender oil is perfect for relaxing after a long stressful day or anytime you need to take a deep breath. It has a calming effect. I like to apply a few drops of lavender oil to the inside of my wrists and rub it into the bottom of my feet right before bed to relax. I always want to stay up later than I should so the oil helps me to fall asleep faster and forget about my worries for the day. It’s a nice bed time ritual that works for me and something I look forward to.
- Peppermint oil: Peppermint oil is great for soothing an upset stomach and bloating or cramps. I usually apply a few drops to my stomach and rub it in a circular motion. It seems to provide some relief to these problems. Another use for peppermint oil is to apply it to any sore muscles to relieve muscle tension.
- Eucalyptus oil: My third favorite oil is Eucalyptus. I like to use this oil anytime I have a cold, breathing it in or applying it to my chest with a little bit of coconut oil.
- Cedarwood oil: Especially now that fall is around the corner I have a tendency to fall for more woodsy scents and Cedarwood is definitely that. It has a very grounding effect and just smells perfectly like a forest and fresh air. I sometimes add this oil to my diffuser or a bath to breathe it in or make my house smell great. It is said that Cederwood oil helps release serotonin, creating a very calming and grounding effect. It can also be used with coconut oil to moisturize your hair and reduce dandruff.
- Rosehip oil: I love using rose oil especially during the winter months when my skin gets particularly dry. Rose oil is very hydrating and gives a youthful glow. I’ll apply a little bit to my face (a little goes a long way!) and rub it in. Rose oil is known for its anti-aging properties full of antioxidants, providing protection from age spots, increasing collagen production, and reducing acne scarring (Source: https://draxe.com/rosehip-oil/).
These are just a few of the essential oils I have come to know and love over the years. I’m still learning about essential oils but I’m quickly realizing the benefits of them. I feel like I have only scratched the surface on the uses for these oils. If you have any suggestions on uses for particular oils that have worked for you please feel free to share them with me below, I’d love to learn about them!
