My skincare routine has evolved over the years as I’ve figured out what works for my skin and what doesn’t. My skin can be a little tricky, sensitive to chemicals and prone to acne. It can also drastically change season to season as I live in Ohio. In the summer, it can get pretty oily and in the harsh winters in Ohio my skin can get very dry if I don’t take care of it. Now that Fall is around the corner (though it still feels like Summer here!) I’m preparing my skincare routine for the changing season. Below are a couple of my favorite skincare products. There are also a few staples that I use year round because they’re just that good.
Eye Creams
I love my eye creams and use them daily. My two favorite eye creams are Benefit Cosmetics It’s Potent! Eye Cream and Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream. I like to use It’s Potent Eye Cream at night before bed and have been using it for years now. It’s extremely hydrating and I do feel the difference if I forget to put it on before bed! Sometimes I’ll get back up just to put it on before I go to sleep because I love the way it feels on the skin around my eyes. I have noticed a slight improvement in the skin around my eyes, just more plump so less wrinkles. Since I’m 27 I use it more for preventative use and to protect and hydrate the skin.
I love using the Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream in the morning because it has a punch to it with coffee beans, ginzeng, and other brighteners. This eye cream is perfect for waking up! It feels great on my eyes in the morning for a short term benefit and I have noticed in the long run (almost a year of using this one as well almost daily) that it has helped with brightening and helping with bags under my eyes from lack of sleep. I also have allergies that often make me wake up with slightly puffy eyes so using this eye cream helps reduce the puffiness. I highly recommend this one! Just make sure its fully absorbed before applying any eye makeup.
Face Lotion
One of my favorite face moisturizers is Cetaphil’s Daily Facial Moisturizer. I’ve tried plenty of high-end face lotions and some are honestly not worth the price. This one holds up strong against many high-end lotions. It’s light and hydrating but not greasy, perfect for applying in the morning before makeup. Since my skin can be pretty picky, once I find something that works I usually stick to it. In the fall and heading into the winter months, when I need extra moisture, I sometimes add in a few drops of Rosehip oil to this face lotion.
At night I recently started using L’Oreal’s Revitalift Bright Reveal Brightening Dual Overnight Moisturizer. I had noticed that I had been getting small bumps or what appeared to be white heads on my forehead so my dermatologist recommended me using a lotion or cleanser with glycolic acid to help gently exfoliate. I’m still waiting on the results from this product, but the description reads, “Exfoliating concentrate powered by Glycolic Acid, a gold standard in brightening, recognized by dermatologists, is clinically tested to penetrate skins surface, removing dead skin cells to help absorption. Potent brightening infusion with Vitamin C plus Pro-Retinol continuously delivers overnight to enhance skin clarity, reduce visibility of dark spots, uneven tone and wrinkles.” Only time will tell if it delivers on all of these promises!
Cleansers
I also really love Bliss Fabulous Foaming Face Wash. I have been using this face wash for years and really love it. I was kind of disappointed though when Sephora dropped the line so now I can only get it at Kohls or Ulta. I tried to stock up when it was on sale but I’m thinking its about time I try a new cleanser. Let me know any recommendations you have in the comments below!
My other favorite skincare product is Neutrogena’s Makeup Remover wipes for removing my eye makeup and an easy fix for when I don’t feel like fully washing my face at night. I will sometimes use this along with some micellar cleansing water on a cotton pad. It’s amazing how much makeup still comes off when using the micellar water even after using the makeup remover wipes! That’s why only using the wipes is not a great idea to do night after night because it doesn’t fully cleanse your skin and leaves behind gross dirt and makeup that you wouldn’t know was still there.
DIY Skincare
Besides the typical lotions, serums, and cleansers I also love using coconut oil as a body lotion to hydrate dry skin in the fall and winter months. I also love creating my own scrubs such as this coffee body scrub, or simply mixing together baking soda and water to form an exfoliating scrub.
Vitamins
I’ve been trying to drink more water to invigorate my skin but honestly not the best at this! On top of that I also really like taking Olly vitamins for Vibrant Skin. This vitamin has Hyaluronic Acid, Collagen, and Sea Buckthorn for plumping up the skin and giving a youthful glow.
